Users of Psychological Health training system are returning Servicemembers who are in regular contact with other veterans. They practice holding a conversation with Steve, who seems to be having issues adjusting to life at home. With each play, the user encounters a different version of Steve, with varied mental health issues and stressors from home and work. With repeated practice, users will be able to recognize signs of psychological health issues that a soldier may experience and will be able to identify treatment resources for their friends. Steve may resist taking advice; however, each user will become comfortable with moving past his reluctance and providing some health resources for his consideration.
This training system teaches veterans how to recognize signs of psychological health issues that a soldier may experience, reduce the stigma of discussion, and identify treatment resources. In addition to practicing authentic conversations, users receive real-time support from an on-screen coach and an assessment at the end of their conversation on whether or not they built rapport, responded to resistance, and provided a resource. After playing this training system, users will be able to discuss difficult topics with other veterans while educating themselves about treatment options.
